The State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia, is one of the great museums of the world. It is housed in the former Winter Palace of the Tsars and several other prestigious sites in St. Petersburg. It has an encyclopaedic collection ranging over painting, sculpture and the decorative arts – European, Russian and Oriental. It is actively engaged in archaeology with digs at many sites and an incomparable collection of archaeological artefacts.
The Hermitage Foundation UK (formerly the Friends of the Hermitage) is a UK based support group, which acts as both a development office and fundraiser. It helps shape new projects under the guidance of the director of the Hermitage and his curatorial staff, and seeks funding from outside Russia in order to realise them. The Foundation works closely with St. Petersburg development and fundraising staff.
The Foundation is looking to recruit a Chief Executive to take over from the existing founder of the organisation later in the year. The Chief Executive will be responsible for the governance of the trust and will manage its day to day operation and finances as well as develop programmes and projects as agreed by the board of trustees. They will also be heavily involved in fundraising for the organisation.
The role:
-To work with the Directors and trustees to develop a clear and viable forward strategy in the shape of a three year plan. To prepare regular reports on the status of all projects acting as the secretary to the Company to ensure compliance with Companies Act requirements and the Charities Commission regulations.
-To agree the fundraising strategy with the Board of Directors and to implement such strategy taking responsibility for the development of the Friends and Membership of the organisation.
-To lead a small team of dedicated staff and maintain effective communications with the Directors, with all members and supporters in the UK and with the Director of The Hermitage and other Hermitage staff.
The Person:
Whilst a knowledge and experience of Russian Art and Culture would be a preference, candidates could be drawn from a variety of backgrounds in the arts or cultural sectors but above all, it is vital that candidates have the following experience, personal skills and attributes:-
-Experienced in fundraising both at an individual and a corporate level ideally with a strong network of contacts to call upon. Strong existing relationships within the art world would also be of distinct advantage.
-Will have excellent organisational, planning and administrative experience with outstanding verbal and written communication skills with the ability to motivate, inspire and lead a small team, as well as build effective relationships with people at all levels.
-Strong project management skills and experience of curating exhibitions would be beneficial for this role.
Salary: £50,000
