The Russian Cinema Research Group at the School of Slavonic and East European Studies, University College London, is affiliated to the Centre for Russian Studies and was founded in the autumn of 2002. It draws upon the holdings of the SSEES Video and DVD collection, on which information can be found at the SSEES Film and Video Database, and on the expertise of staff working on Russian film in SSEES, UCL and other British universities.
The Research Group holds regular work in progress seminars and welcomes visiting scholars working in the field. In the 2008-2009 session it marked the centenary of the release of the first feature film in Russia in October 1908 by holding 10 seminars, assessing a significant film for each decade of Russian film history.

1. School of Modern Languages and Cultures Postgraduate Bursaries

The School is offering bursaries for students undertaking taught and research MAs and PhD programmes in SMLC, full-time and part-time, starting in September/October 2012. Both Home/EU and international students are eligible to apply.
In 2012-13, either full-fee or half-fee bursaries at UK/EU fee levels may be awarded to individual applicants at the discretion of the Scholarships Committee.
Bursary applications are invited from highly qualified prospective students of all nationalities for MA and PhD by research and for taught MA programmes. 2. School of Modern Languages and Cultures Interpreting and Translation Scholarships
(deadline 8 June 2012)
The School is offering up to 3 Interpreting and Translation Scholarships for UK and EU students undertaking the MA Applied Translation Studies (full-time or part-time), the MA Audiovisual Translation Studies (full-time or part-time), the MA Conference Interpreting and Translation Studies - Bidirectional (full-time) or the MA Conference Interpreting and Translation Studies (full-time).
Applications are invited from highly qualified prospective students. Applications will be considered on academic merit alone.
The award will cover full tuition fees at the UK/EU rate for the programme. The awards are available to nationals from the UK and EU and are not open to applicants who are liable to pay academic fees at the international fee rate.

In the proposal of the European Commission for the 8th EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation, HORIZON 2020, cultural heritage has been omitted completely, thus taking away all the funds previously available for research in this field. This decision has serious consequences, since the whole basis for the conservation of cultural heritage in Europe will be eliminated, probably for many years to come.
Against this background, members of the Focus Areas Cultural Heritage (FACH) of the European Construction Technology Platform (ECTP) have taken action for an online petition to be addressed to the European Parliament and the European Council in order to plead strongly for the inclusion of cultural heritage research in HORIZON 2020.
In signing this letter, the European cultural heritage research community request the EU to acknowledge fully its responsibilities, now and in the future, to put cultural heritage research back high on its agenda and to address the topic appropriately in the next Framework Programme.

The Department of Slavic Languages & Literatures at the University of Kansas invites applications for its MA and PhD Programs.
At the MA level, KU SLL provides students with foundational knowledge (major literary periods and genres, structure and function of Slavic languages, disciplinary methodologies, control of writing and research strategies, and appropriate language capacity). Students may choose to focus on Russian, Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian, or Polish languages and cultures.
